Polymer clay flowers and leaves
add dimension to decorative
painting projects.

F lowers have long been a favorite subject for decorative painters. This simple project starts with tole painted leaves and tendrils on a 3" wooden heart. If you have the skill, you can paint your own. Or, use a rub-on design as this example shows.

Condition polymer clay and partially blend several shades together for variegated effects. Mold four roses: one small, two medium, and one large. Mold six leaves: two small and four medium. Bake the clay pieces.

Use Arts & Crafts Goop to attach the leaves, roses, and rayon cording for hanging. Glue a few pink seed beads in groups of three for the finishing touch.

RosebudAdditional Ideas:

  • Substitute the Poinsettias & Holly mold for a holiday ornament.
  • Decorate the top of a small, heart-shaped box.
  • Omit the handing cord and add a magnet to the back.
  • Instead of a wooden heart, roll a sheet of white clay and cut your own.
