Save Paper: Print Half Sheets
When you only need a few small digital images, there’s no need to print them on a full sheet of cardstock. Instead, you can cut it in half and print on smaller sheets — as long as your printer will handle that size. Notice how this project only takes a few pieces of each color?
To work with half sheets in Photoshop, under File > New, I save a Preset with the following settings. A Preset makes it easy to open other new drawings later with the same dimensions.

Since the pixels/inch is set to 300, it is ready to copy and paste the individual 300 dpi PNG images. When they are going to be cut out, a lot of images can be placed on the sheet to fill it. The half sheets in the next photo were left over after making the 3-D flowers above. The extras can be kept in a folder so that they are on hand for other projects. For example, see the yellow daisy on the Wallaby Congrats Card.
Printed half sheets used for the 3-D flowers in the flowerpot.
Check your printer manual. Some printers will handle the half sheets better if you feed the wide 8.5" side rather than trying to narrow the paper guides to feed a 5.5" width. Just set your printer properties for this custom 8.5" x 5.5" sheet size. You’ve got a 50/50 chance of choosing whether your printer is going to consider it a landscape or a portrait layout. You might want to print a test on a half sheet of normal printer paper first, so that you don’t risk your good cardstock. (Ask me how I know.
) I also save that custom setting in my printer preferences, so that it’s ready to go the next time I need to print a half sheet.
Blog Candy Reminder
If you haven’t done so already, there’s still time to check out the blog candy offered in my first blog post on April 15th. The cutoff date is next Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 1:00 pm MDT. Good luck.

First of all, this flower and pot is gorgeous. And thanks for explaining how to download these stamps. I do not own photo shop myself
Good point, Rebekka. Not everyone uses a graphics program like Photoshop.
For those who use Word to print digital images, it’s still possible to print half sheets. That setting is under File > Page Setup, then click the Paper tab to set the width and height to 8.5″ x 5.5″.
Thanks for your comment.

Beautiful project too!
Your flower pot project is sooo pretty…I love all the colors and how you added the buttons for the centers!!! Thanks for the instructions, also…I am sooo computer challenged!!! Thanks for stopping by my blog!!!
Hi, Lauri –
. I’d love to see what you create with them, so I hope you’ll send me a link.
Thank you for your purchases
Hi, Joan –
In the “computer challenged” department, you’ve got a lot of company. With so many different programs, it’s impossible to be an expert at them all. I’m always learning, but that’s what keeps it fun.
To All –
Many thanks for taking the time to comment. I so enjoy reading what you have to say.
Thanks Judi for the tip…I do alot printing on MS Powerpoint and just adjust the size to custom and do a preview before printing so I know if I am cutting off the image. I have Photoshop that came with the computer but only have used it to resize photos for my gallery and insert my siggy on the photo. I will have to try to see if I have this option on Photoshop. Happy Day!
love this info (and your gorgeous floral creation, too!)
I don’t have photoshop either, and for those of you who don’t, there is a great program out there that is FREE and wonderful! it is called GIMP and can be downloaded straight from the ‘net. it lets you do everything that photoshop does. sorry for the plug, (nope I don’t work for them), but I’m all about open software. a teacher friend of ours turned me onto it when I was working at the school, and then our local library connected into open software when I was working there. great stuff!
I am going to be adding one of your wonderful blog badges to my blog! so glad to see these! they are ALMOST as cute as your little Aussies!
have a good one!
This bouquet is absolutely amazing. I may just have to try these digistamps one day soon. I have seen some really cute ones!

Oh my goodness…this is simply stunning! What a beautiful bouquet! This would be such a great little Mother’s Day gift or just a fun thing to give someone to help brighten their day. Thanks for the inspiration!
