Design Team: Summer Fun

The brand new Summer 2009 Design Team has created some adorable cards for this week’s theme: Summer Fun. The colors are either patriotic or they come from the warm end of the spectrum, with brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows. Have a Beary Nice Summer by Cheryl Rowley

Cheryl Rowley

Cheryl’s card uses the large bear from Mini Bears & Birds. She colored the bear with Copic markers and cut him out. He is raised on dimensionals in front of an oval Nestability which is outlined with white dots. The orange daisies are punched and the white center has sparkle. They are raised on dimensionals, too. The daisy background is from a digital download and the centers are colored with copic markers.

A Beary Nice Day at the Beach by Alma Olhava

Alma Olhava

Nothing screams summer more than a card made with a beach theme. The simulated embossed sand was a great way to showcase the wavy sentiment. Alma used a fun paper pleating technique at the bottom to tie the card together. You can see how much Bearly Adequate is enjoying his day. What a better way to celebrate hot summer days at the beach.

Missing You Bear by Cheryl Walker

Cheryl Walker

Cheryl used alcohol inks on the bear and added a real feather for his quill pen. She got her Copic airbrush this week and was waiting for it so she could try out her new compressor — she loves it. She airbrushed the background die cuts with the Copic airbrush system. She added swirls and flowers, and of course a little bow.

A Day in the Summer Sun by Lynn McAuley

Lynn McAuley

Lynn created A Day in the Summer Sun with images from Mini Bears & Birds. She used a mixture of punches and die cuts to create this outdoor scene with Teddy hoping to get his sunglasses back from his sweet bird friend. The images were printed on white card stock, cut out, and colored with Prismacolor Pencils and odorless mineral spirits. Prima flowers with rhinestone centers were added for detail.

Feel Better Beary Soon by Alma Olhava

Alma Olhava

One of Alma’s favorite images from the Mini Bears & Birds set is Cubby Cousins bear. The expression on his face shows just how much he wants to give you a hug. Alma created a fun apple-shaped card that shows how much Chubby Cousins truly cares about his friends. The sentiment "Hope you’ll be feeling better beary soon" is showcased inside the card. This card combines both a vintage flair as well as fun shaped card that will brighten anyone’s day.

Beary Happy 4th by Suzy Haghighi

Suzy Haghighi

Suzy used the cute Mini Bears & Birds set to create a shaped card with lots of layers. The image is colored with Copic markers, then layered onto circle-shaped die cuts. The blue check paper is by Sassafras Lass; the cardstock is by Stampin’ Up! Red butterfly punches, blue crystals, and white flowers with gemstones add sparkle.

It’s fun to see how each designer brings her own unique flair to this summer theme. Didn’t the new design team do a wonderful job for the first week?
