Design Team: Cover-Ups

This week’s Design Team theme is cover-ups. The team has made creative cardstock covers for a notepad, tea bag, candy bar, Post-it Notes, list organizer, and a recycled can. Click the thumbnails to see larger photos and more details on the designers’ blogs.

Post-it Note Holder and List Organizer by Alma Olhava

Alma's digi-stamp list organizer

Alma created this Post-it Notes holder using the raccoon from Marching Band 2 for the main image. It was printed on white cardstock, colored with Prismacolor pencils blended with baby oil, and distressed with Antique Linen ink. It is topped off with a Prima flower, pink crochet fleurette, and button.

Alma's digi-stamp list organizer, inside

Inside Alma’s folio, two pockets hold a shopping list, notes, and a 3×3 Post-it Note Pad, along with a matching pen. Not only is a wide green grosgrain ribbon used to keep the pen in place on the inside, but it also keeps the note holder closed when not in use. This would be the perfect size to keep handy in your purse or tote. See Alma’s blog for a mini tutorial.

Sweet Treats Candy Wrapper by Cheryl Walker

Cheryl's candy wrapper

For this chocolate bar wrapper, Cheryl used cardstock, Sweet Treats designer paper, ribbons, trims, and a Martha Stewart border punch. She cut a special trim down the middle to use along the sides of the designer paper. Her darling racoon is colored with Copic markers. She added felt flowers for embellishment.

Cheryl's notes

This Post-it Notes cover is airbrushed on the Nestabilities die cut cover, and Cheryl used the designer paper on the inside too. She added trims and ribbon to tie the front and back covers together. The cow is from the Toys on Wheels set and is colored with Copics.

Tea Bag Cover by Lauri Ingram

Lauri's notes

There’s nothing like a nice cup of tea when you are feeling down. Here is a great little cover-up for a tea bag using the Simply Flowers digital stamps set. There’s room inside for a short note and a tea bag — or maybe a chocolate square instead. Check out Lauri’s blog for more pictures and info on the tutorial.

Covered Notepad by Cheryl Rowley

Cheryl's notepad cover

Cheryl made a cover for a small notepad for this week’s project. She used a lemon yellow cardstock which was embossed with a paisley design. The pattern really shows up with the ink distressing in light brown. She colored a little bear from the Mini Bears & Birds image download, and the border design at the top is from the Seasonal Borders set. Coloring is done with Copic markers and the feather pen is finished off with some sparkly Stickles.

Marching Band Music Can by Lynn McAuley

Lynn's marching band can

Can wrappers have been around for years, but they never fail to delight young and old alike when a gift is packaged in this fashion. And what a great way to go green and do a little useful recycling. Lynn created this can for a 13-year-old who is having a birthday soon. She used a safety can opener to remove the bottom of a fruit can, removed the label, and then scrubbed it down with hot soapy water. After it had dried, she filled it with fruity Skittles and an ITunes gift card. The bottom was then glued back on using Crystal Effects. She created this wrapper using both the Marching Band 1 and the Marching Band 2 digi-stamp sets printed on White Georgia Pacific card stock. The digital images were colored with Prismacolor pencils and odorless mineral spirits. She added black Spica pen to the musical notes and dotted the surface with red rhinestones for a little bling. Lynn used Scor-Tape to attach it and the ribbon to the can. A red and blue organdy bow was added to cover the seam and dress up the can.

Blog Candy

Congratulations to the two winners from last week’s Blog Hop. Cheryl’s winner is KanataNewf, who chose Marching Band 1 to go with her Marching Band 2 set. Sparkle’s winner is Lisa, who chose Aussie Animals with her Marching Band 1 set. I hope both winners have fun with their new digital stamp sets. :D

And for those who didn’t win last week, you have another chance. One of the five designers’ blogs linked above is offering Angels Landing blog candy this week. You’ll need to figure out which one it is and leave a comment there to enter. Good luck!
