Design Team: 4-Way Sketch

The Design Team’s challenge this week is to follow one of my card layout sketches. The twist is that they were allowed to twist it any way they wanted. Here’s the sketch, shown rotated and flipped for four variations.

4-way card sketch for digital stamps layout

The fascinating thing about card sketches is that each designer will come up with her own original interpretation of the basic sketch. Autumn Cracked Glass by Lisa Cook

Digi-stamps

Lisa showcased the cracked glass technique with her card this week. She wanted to complement the cracked look of the designer paper she chose. The Autumn Tweetings image lent itself well to this and looks very antique on her project. The image background was done with a golden yellow Prismacolor pencil, blended with odorless mineral spirits. The rest of the image was colored with Copics. She followed this week’s sketch and ended up with a unique style of a fall greeting.

Pair of Fall Cards by Lauri Ingram

Digi-stamps

Fall is in the air at Lauri’s blog. Lauri took two different looks at this week’s sketch and highlighted two images from the Autumn Tweetings set. This week’s sketch is very versatile and can be used in many different directions. Here are two ways you can use the sketch with both an oval and a circle image from the new set.

Sketch Challenge Card by Jennifer Love

Digi-stamps

For this holiday themed card, Jennifer printed the Autumn Tweetings Circle Bird, colored with Copic markers, and then highlighted a bit on the berries with some Stickles.  She cut around the Circle Bird and stuck it to a Spellbinder’s scalloped circle.  A sentiment was added and a poinsettia Prima flower was used to complete the sketch’s circle element.

Happy Hollydays by Cheryl Walker

Digi-stamps

Cheryl used these two darling images with some leftover Christmas designer paper from last year. She did do sewing on her card and added Fun Flock to their Santa hats, and Stickles to the holly berries. She finished it off with a multi-looped bow in sheer ribbon. The sentiments are from the same Ho Ho Hollydays set.

Pup and Bird in Santa Hats by Cindy Royal

Digi-stamps

Cindy followed the given sketch using only cardstock, no designer papers or embellishments. The images are colored with Prismacolor pencils blended with odorless mineral spirits. The "fur" on the pup’s and bird’s hats are done with white Fun Flock and the pup’s hat is layered for a 3D effect. And, of course, she stitched edges of some of the layers.

Zinnia Sympathy by Broni Holcombe

Digi-stamps

The zinnia from Simply Flowers was perfect to try water coloring a digi image. Several copies of the flower and leaf images were printed on a thin watercolor paper using photo ink, and then heat set to dry. They were "loosely" painted using reinkers and a water brush, cut out, and used as one of the sketch elements. A sentiment stamped on watercolor paper and matted on a die cut layer completes the card.

Welcome Autumn by Lynn McAuley

Digi-stamps

Autumn is Lynn’s favorite season, and she is so excited about the newly released Autumn Tweetings. She created today’s card using Pumpkin Birdhouse from this wonderful set and a mix of great fall colors. The image is colored with Prismacolor Pencils and blended with odorless mineral spirits. The sentiment "Autumn" is also from this set, and she used a leaf punch to cut it out to mount it on this luscious velvet ribbon.
