Design Team: Think Small

For this week’s assignment, the Design Team was limited in size to three inches or less. The size requirement certainly didn’t cramp their style. They managed to create a whole range of adorable mini projects, from gift cards, to gift tag sets, to boxed cards — and even fold-out photo albums.

Mini Albums in a Slide-out Drawer by Maria Bell

Maria decided to use the Ho Ho Hollydays set for her project this week because she thinks the images are so darn cute. The images were perfect for the mini albums she created. The three 3 x 3" mini albums are stored in a 3 x 3" drawer, but the drawer can fit up to five mini albums.

These albums make great stocking stuffers. Maria colored the images with Copic Markers and added Liquid Appliqué to puff up the white parts of the snow caps.

The mini albums have a total of four pages to decorate or add photos.

Gift Cards and Box by Cindy Royal

Cindy decided to make a 3" x 3" box, only 1/2" inch deep, that holds four ornament-shaped gift tags with the holly image. The box has a printed, but not pierced, background on it. She also did small gift cards with the Ho Ho Ho image on them. Those are 1" x 2.75".

3" x 3" note cards were used as the bases for all of these Christmas gift tags. There are a total of 25 tags, six different designs. Each image was reduced and printed on white cardstock and colored with Copic markers.

Various background patterned papers were added and Atyou Spica glitter pens were used to highlight all of the images. These are the stamp sets used: Penguin Chicks, Ho Ho Hollydays, Season’s Tweetings, and Pierced Tags.

Holiday Gift Tags by Cheryl Walker

On the bear circle, Cheryl used the Spellbinders dies to cut the circles and the scallop circle. The star is from a button pack, and she added lots of punched branches to the side of this one. The darling little bear is airbrushed with Copics. She added ribbon to tie it to a package.

The sweeet little penguin is colored with Copics in a few different greys. Cheryl used this snowflake designer paper from Colorbok and cut it out with a Quickutz die. She also used some polka dot DP from Papertrey, ribbon, and the Martha Stewart branch punch.

Jennifer has chosen her favorite image from the Penguin Chicks set for her 3 x 3" mini card. She printed the image on white cardstock and colored the little penguin with Copic markers to match her new favorite holiday patterned papers. A few half-back pearls, colored with Copic markers to match, embellish the die-cut circle to make this simple mini card.

Baby Notecard Box by Michelle Redman

For Michelle’s "Think Small" challenge, she chose to make a 3 x 3" Notecard Box with notecards. Her main image was printed twice and colored. She cut the wheels out of one of the images and popped them up with Dimensionals onto the second image. Her embellishments include ribbon, and tiny hands and feet buttons.

Michelle used six images from the Toys On Wheels set colored with Prismacolor Pencils and odorless mineral spirits. Check out her blog for more detailed pictures of this project.
