Design Team: Seasonal Celebrations

This week marks the end of the Fall 2009 Design Team term, and the designers have created some wonderful projects to celebrate the holiday season. In addition to their new designs for this week, I’ve also picked my favorite from each designer over the past four months.

Penguin Tag Treat Boxes by Dawn Lusk

This Penguin Chicks image is colored with Copics. Shipping tags, plain white cardstock, ribbon, and fun patterned paper make up this cute treat box. Check Dawn’s blog for a tutorial.

When I asked the Design Team to use either real or faux stitching on their projects, I didn’t expect someone to "stitch" on a candle. Dawn combined the Faux Stitched Borders and Seasonal Borders with the Penguin Chicks image and sentiment. She printed the images on tissue paper and fused them to the candle with a heat tool.

Tiny Holiday Ornaments by Lisa Cook

Lisa went to town with her tiny ornaments. She provides a link to the tutorial so you can make your own. They are quick, fun and easy. She used a couple of her favorite images from Angel’s Landing as well, the first being this bird from the Ho Ho Hollydays set.

Lisa’s second Christmas ornament has a close-up of one of the Penguin Chicks.

In September, Lisa designed this elegant card for the first-ever Angels Landing sketch challenge. All of the individual elements combine beautifully, and the cracked glass technique really sets off this Autumn Tweetings image. The warm amber colors are so appropriate for Fall.

Cardinal Ornament by Broni Holcombe

digi-stamps

Since Broni has had grandkids, each year both of her daughters and their families come to her house early in December and they all help her decorate the Christmas tree. They have such fun and it really sets the tone for a joyous and grateful season of celebration for them all. Broni used the Season’s Tweetings cardinal to create a new ornament to add to her tree this year. The base is a wooden snowflake. Glass glitter, a little lace, a silk flower also coated with glitter, and some tiny garnet colored microbeads have been added. The cardinal is layered and the top layer has a fine coat of Distress Stickles in Rock Candy, for just a touch of shimmer.

This was Broni’s debut card for the Design Team, and it remains one of my favorites to this day. The images from the Alphabet Train set were colored with Copic markers and shaded with Prismacolor pencils. Her color scheme couldn’t have been more perfect. She added sparkle and glitz with Stickles on the train cars and around the Nestie Dahlia die cut.

Fleur de Lis Ornament by Cindy Royal

This week, Cindy chose to do an ornament by accordion folding the Fleur de Lis Nestabilities medallion die cuts. The "pearls" are liquid appliqué and the Season’s Tweetings image is printed on acrylic painted paper and heat embossed in gold. The ornament itself is 5" across.

For the November Blog Hop to celebrate the release of Polar Bear Cubs, Cindy constructed this adorable snow globe card. The polar bear is placed inside, beneath an acetate globe. She has colored the bear with Copics to flawlessly coordinate with the designer paper and Core’dinations cardstock. I especially like the play between all the varieties of snowflakes.

Shadow Box Ornament by Lynn McAuley

Lynn tries to make an ornament each year for the children in her family. This year she used this super easy shadow box made from a 2¼" x 3" jewelry gift box and Labels 4 Nestabilities to showcase this precious cub from Angels Landing’s Polar Bear Cubs.

For our ABC Anything But a Card challenge, Lynn came up with this lovely travel night light. She used the Pierced Backgrounds set to pierce the translucent vellum, and it is lit with a battery-powered LED tealight. The cardstock cover collapses for packing.

Shaker Ornaments by Maria Bell

Christmas means many things for Maria, but one of the things that brings good memories, other than spending time with family, is hanging ornaments on the tree. She decided to create three handmade shaker ornaments in three different shapes.

She used images from the Ho Ho Holidays set for the first two ornaments and the Polar Bear Cubs image for the third one.

The templates and tutorial to create the shaker ornaments are provided on her blog.

I had to pick these mini photo albums made with the Ho Ho Hollydays set, since it’s hard to believe how much Maria packed into a 3" x 3" space. The mini albums come complete with a little pull-out drawer to store them. A very close second is Maria’s Multi-Flap Pocket Card, another winning design.

A Special "Thank You" to the Team

I want to take a moment to thank each of these designers for all their efforts to help promote Angels Landing. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with them. It’s always hard to say goodbye — and that’s why I’m not going to. I’ll be inviting them back again to participate in future blog hops. While I’m taking a break from my main Design Team for a while, there will still be new releases planned for 2010. Look for these designers, as well as some of our past Guest Designers and some new faces, to be joining us for blog hops in the new year. Until then, I wish you all joy-filled Seasonal Celebrations of your own.
